Alta Mons will be doing sun printing and other games as a preview of what we do at summer camp! Stop by to learn about summer camp! Also learn about Stiles Falls, a 40 foot waterfall that is open to the public every day of the year except during summer & winter camp.
Kid Zone Presented by Apple Ridge Farm
Camp Bethel

Apple Ridge Farm will have kid friendly activities along with interactive displays. Come look at skulls, bones, and feathers to get a glimpse of treasures that can be found in the outdoors! The booth will also have information on the programs and facilities at Apple Ridge Farm along with ropes, helmets, and harnesses to get a glimpse of what it's like to be on a ropes course.

Test your creativity skills and join Camp Bethel staff to make your very own tree cookie! You can choose a tree cookie, sand it smooth, color/draw any design, add some string, plus a FREE Camp Bethel sticker, and you have your own Camp Bethel name tag. Feel free to compare your tree cookie to one that a summer staff member has made!


Backcountry Ski & Sport Inc. Gear Swap
We will provide a consignment area for those who would like to give some old gear a new home. You’re welcome to bring used outdoor gear-including hiking equipment, paddling, climbing, ski and snowboarding gear. Clothing or hard-goods, everything welcome. No cost for folks that come and sell their own gear. If you can’t stick around to sell your gear, no worries; drop off your stuff and we’ll sell it for you for a 25% consignment fee. There will be raffles/giveaways throughout the day. Stop on by!
Mountain 2 Island Demo Pool

Montgomery County Virtual Reality Tour
Take a tour of Montgomery County VA from the comfort of your own phone! Montgomery County Tourism has partnered with GoJourni, a Blacksburg start-up technology company, to virtually introduce visitors to beautiful Montgomery County VA. The GoJourni crew will be at the Montgomery County Regional Tourism Booth with the preloaded app on VR viewers. The app is also available for free download on personal Apple and Android phones. Cardboard viewers will be given out to the first 50 people to stop by the booth.

Outdoor Expo Event Activities
Mountain 2 Island Paddleboard Company, located on the waterfront at Claytor Lake State Park Marina, will offer the opportunity to try the fastest growing outdoor adventure, Stand Up Paddleboard, in their demo pool at the Southwest Virginia Expo, ages 8 and up will receive a basic intro to paddleboarding from one of Mountain 2 Island's staff and then enter the 40' x 60' demo pool. These demos will be offered at various times during the expo, both for youth (ages 8-12) and adults (13 and up) various timeslots during the expo, there is no charge to try this exciting new outdoor adventure on the water, participants will need to complete waiver.
Virginia DGIF Boat Display
Virginia's Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will be bringing displays of their wildlife resources, including an ELECTROFISHING BOAT! DGIF will also bring displays of Virginia's wildlife resources as well as Law Enforcement equipment.
Radford University Outdoors
RU Outdoor programs offer several services to the community including, American Mountain Guides Association Certifications, American Canoe Association Certifications, Leave No Trace Certifications, guided group programs, private group programming, and a climbing wall that is open to the public. RU Outdoors will also be providing Leave No Trace awareness workshops for interested individuals.
VT College of Natural Resources and Environment
Did you know that the nation’s number one natural resources school is found in Virginia? In fact, it’s located right here in the New River Valley. It’s Virginia Tech. Stop by our booth to learn more about the award-winning natural resource programs that we offer, from forestry and wildlife, to environmental conservation and recreation management. Let Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources and Environment turn your outdoor hobby into a career!
Radford University Outdoor Skills Workshops
The Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Department at Radford University is the oldest accredited academic program in the state of Virginia. It offers concentrations in tourism and special events, outdoor recreation and leadership and therapeutic recreation. Throughout the day students studying outdoor leadership will offer a variety of outdoor living skills workshops (such as tree identification, fire building, wilderness first aid, water safety, map reading and fishing). Stop by our booth to learn more about earning a degree at Radford University or come by and participate in one of our workshops. Schedules of workshops will be provided at the booth.
Appalachian Trail Conservancy
Visit ATC to learn all about the Appalachian Trail in Southwest Virginia--including maps, guidebooks, recommended hikes and how to get involved. Hikers of all ages will enjoy playing "A.T.-opoly"--roll the giant dice and see if you can make it from Georgia to Maine!
Floyd Yoga Jam
Stop by Floyd Yoga Jam to watch Acro-Yoga demonstrations and try your hand at Slacklining. While you're at it, learn about the annual Floyd Yoga Jam. Floyd Yoga Jam is a 4 day event, and is scheduled every Labor Day Weekend, this year 8/31-9/3. The festival site is in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Floyd County Virginia.

JBR Vineyards will be here talking about their selection of wines made locally in Giles County. While parents learn about tastings, the kids will be able to play the Vine Vocab game and have the opportunity to win prizes!



Giles Mountain Vineyard and Winery will be hosting $5 wine tastings at the Expo. Stop by to get a taste of local, sustainably grown wine. Giles Mountain's goal is to minimize their footprint on the land, conserve natural resources, and reduce chemical dependence while producing outstanding regional wines.

Tangent Outfitters Float Trips
Tangent Outfitters will be hosting short floats between Claytor Lake and Dudley’s Landings the day of the event. For a reduced fee guests can enjoy one or both of the short floats planned and then rejoin the festivities. Get a sample of the fun and adventure on the New. Tangent Outfitters will have a raft, canoes, and kayaks available to experience the New River and dream of your next adventure in the New River Valley.
